Carla Breaux
2019 Recipient
Carla Breaux, NCTM, LCTM has been an independent music teacher in Lake Charles for 15 years. In 2006, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy at McNeese State University under the instruction of Dr. Christy Vogt. Carla maintains a very active piano studio where she offers individual, group lessons, monthly Saturday theory workshops, and recitals for students of all ages. In addition to teaching piano, Carla is a licensed Musikgarten teacher. These early childhood music classes are available to babies and toddlers under the age of 4. These classes are designed to help children make the connection between music and movement.
Carla Breaux serves her state and local organizations in several capacities. As a member of LMTA, she currently serves on the board as Technology Chair and Member at Large. In her local association, LCPTA, she has served as Solo & Ensemble Festival Chairman & Historian. Currently, Calra serves as President, Webmaster and District Rally Chair.
Working as Rally Chair, it became apparent that a more uniform reporting system was needed for the state. In 2013, Carla started an extensive project with a computer programmer to create a database which would update the process of collecting, reporting and storing rally scores and other event information. Lake Charles District was the first to try this new system in 2014. With statewide training done that summer, we were able to roll out the new rally database in 2015 to the entire state. In recognition of exemplary service to students, community and professional organizations, we are proud to recognize Carla Breaux with the 2017 Distinguished Service Award.
